The Chase

“Three years ago today on July 3 at 3:00, I had the craziest day of my entire life!” exclaimed George Johnson. “It all began on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I was on my way to a family gathering for my nephew’s baptism when I was flagged down by a police officer. I knew what it was for right away after I looked at my speedometer,” I told the prison guard.“The officer didn’t look very smart or agile, so I got the bright idea to try and drive away once he had turned his vehicle off and got close enough to touch my car,” I told him.
“I took off, but unfortunately for me, he has encountered this situation a couple of times before. He hustled back to his car, flipped on the siren, and radioed for backup. Two miles later down the road, and I had lost sight of the deputy’s car. I had slowed down to the posted speed limit. Four miles later down the road I saw a different police car behind me, so I turned off the freeway onto another road. Just as I suspected it followed me. To prove that the police vehicle was tailing me I turned back onto the freeway, and just as I did, it did the same.”
“I was very nervous the whole time I could see him, but the moment that he flashed those lights and sounded the siren my heart dropped to my stomach, and my foot felt like a brick falling on the gas pedal. I eluded the police for about 30 miles already, and I finally figured out how. All the hours I wasted on playing Grand Theft Auto were starting to pay off! Unfortunately I was almost out of gas and knew I had two choices. My first choice was to surrender and give up or to hijack a car and continue the chase and if I do get caught go to jail for even longer. I knew what I should do, but I also knew what I had to. I slammed the brakes and they all sped passed but they stopped their cars just as I had before.”
“As soon as he finished I ran into the other lane of traffic in front of a car, and I screamed for the woman driving to get out and let me have it,” I explained to the guard. “I stepped on the gas and the chase began once again, but they were ready. There was an enormous armored police truck waiting for me, and once the driver saw me he stepped on the gas. Before I knew it the car was rolling but I didn’t see a thing. Once the car stopped rolling a police officer propped open the passenger side door, and he grabbed me. I knew it was all over when he pulled me out and they put me on a stretcher then into an ambulance.” I confessed to the guard.
“So what happened next?” demanded the guard. “Officer Jeffreys came into the ambulance and told me,” I told the guard. “I will try to put you behind bars for the longest amount of time that I can possibly can, and I assure you that you will have the worst time of your life that you can imagine!” He proclaimed. “Then why are you in here?” asked the guard. “I’m in here because he just wanted to scare me, and that’s what I’m in here for sir. That was the most horrific day of my life, and I have regretted doing that every day since it happened,” I said.
“How much longer are you in for?” “Two more years with good behavior of this delightful chapter of my life,” I told him sarcastically. “I’m sorry that happened to you, but it was a great story to sit back and listen to and thank you for sharing it with me,” he told me. As he walked out of my cell and closed the door, I asked him why he was a prison guard. He told me, “To have great stories told to me by good people who have made terrible decisions in their lives.”
