Choose Your Own Hypoglycemia Adventure: Pediatric Patient
Bonnie Hill
Kaleb Valle is a 4 y/o with type 1 diabetes who was admitted to the hospital two days ago in DKA. His condition has dramatically improved since admission and he was transferred to Pediatrics last night. This morning his mother stated he seemed "more like his happy, active self" and he was allowed to play in the playroom with another child after his mealtime insulin and lunch. You go to check on him in the playroom and he looks tired and states he is hungry. His mother tells you he was anxious to play and didn't finish all of his lunch. You check his blood sugar and it is 48 mg/dl. What do you do first?
