Maria Time Journeys to the Persian Wars
Caitie Hanrahan
I have just arrived outside of Athens. Unfortunately I have crashed landed. I have a few scrapes and bruises but overall I’m ok.
It's around 400 BC. As soon I arrived I saw a big battle going on between the Greeks and Xerxes army of Persian warriors. I am a little scared because I have never seen a real battle before. King Xerxes is the leader of the Persians.
First order of business: who should I fight for? I know! I will fight for the Greeks because I liked learning about them in class. I am now in the woods of Athens watching a bloody battle happen before my eyes. My body is quaking with fear.
“I want to go home,” I said. “Ahhhh!” I screamed when I felt a hand on my shoulder. My heart raced. I looked behind me and a young fighter from the Greeks stared me down. He told me that I should be quiet so the enemies don't hear us. He also told me that we needed to go fight and that the Greeks needed my help. He handed me some heavy armor and a weapon. He took my hand and we headed to the battlefield.
I asked him his name. He said his name was Philippides. Athenians have no horses, only foot soldiers, so I have to walk with this heavy armor. Before I knew it we were standing in the middle of the battlefield. He wished me good luck and then ran off. I forgot to ask him why in the first place they were fighting.
“Philippides!” I yelled running through the battlefield, trying to dodge arrows coming at me.
“What?” he said frantically.
"I forgot to ask why are you guys fighting."
He told me that it all started when the Greeks were threatened by the Persians.
”Oh,” I said. "I'm too scared. I'm getting out of here!"
He yelled after me, but I was too far to hear.
