No Ordinary Day

Hunter & Nathan

My friend and I always enjoyed golfing. We would golf all day long on warm summer days. But one day, almost everything went wrong. We walked into the clubhouse, excited to play some golf. It was a nice day and we couldn’t wait to start golfing. We both grabbed a snack and a drink since we planned on being out there for a while. We walked over to the counter to buy our snacks and purchase our rounds. Austin looked out the window and saw an old crumbling barn out in the distance. He didn’t remember the barn ever being there. His daydream was disturbed by Jimmy who was pulling out his wallet and shouting with glee.
“Another 18 holes Bruce,” Jimmy said to the coarse manager, “ A cart as well.”“You got it, Jimmy,” Bruce responded.
“Ya, and once this is over we all know who’s gonna win,” I said.
“ Ya, me!” they both said.
“Oh ya, we’ll see about that,” I said competitively.
“Don’t you remember last time,” Jimmy asked, “when I beat you?”
“Ya, but this time is gonna be different!” said Austin.
“Alright, let’s just go play some golf,” Jimmy demanded.
“Ya, let’s go,” said Austin.
And just like that, the two were off. In a head to head match up, loser had to buy the winner supper. “I hope you brought your wallet along, cause I plan on eating like a king tonight after I beat you,” Jimmy laughed.
“You mean if you beat me, I’m gonna find the fanciest restaurant, its gonna cost a fortune.” said Austin.
After the first nine holes, Austin was ahead by 9 strokes.
“ Man, I can’t putt at all!” exclaimed Jimmy.
“Ha, I’m gonna beat you so bad!” laughed Austin.
The two went on a few more holes, but Austin was still ahead, only by three now though. It seemed as if Austin was starting to fall back, getting bogey after bogey. But Jimmy on the other hand was finally starting to get the hang of things.
“You better watch out Austin, I’m starting to catch up,” bragged Jimmy.
“Who’s ahead, not you,” said Austin.
Jimmy walked over to tee up for the next hole, determined that he would not lose. Jimmy took a deep breath.
“It’s all in the knees,” Jimmy whispered.
Jimmy hit the golf ball so hard that it flew past the hole and fare into the ruff.
“Aww man, I thought I had that one,” Jimmy complained.
Other members golfing nearby laughed at that thought. The shot was way off course from the second Jimmy hit the ball. There was a group of other course members who were in front of them. They were shouting with anger, “Watch where you hit that ball, you maniac!”
“Wow dude, that went really far,I’ll go get it for you,” said Austin.
Austin went and tried searching for the ball, as Jimmy took a spare one from his bag.
“Forget about that ball Austin, its long gone,” Jimmy shouted.
“Ok, I’m coming,” shouted Austin.
But before Austin had left the long grass, he heard noises coming from behind him. He looked back and saw a wild boar running straight toward him. The boar was making grunting noises as it chased him down. Austin was frightened of what would happen next.
“Jimmy, get the cart started!” shouted Austin.
“I’m coming, Austin!” screeched Jimmy.
Jimmy got on the cart and raced over to Austin.
“Hop on, quick!” Jimmy shouted.
Austin hopped on the cart and they drove away. But they noticed the boar kept on following them wherever they drove.
“That thing won’t stop following us!” exclaimed Jimmy.
“Well let’s go to the clubhouse and get something to scare him off,” said Austin. “Maybe Bruce has a rifle we can scare the boar off with, or maybe we can drive  into the highway and the boar might get hit by a car?”
“Nah, there’s not enough time, how about we trick it into running into that big ole’ oak tree near the pond?” Jimmy offered.
“Ok, but I’m not doing it, you can,” said Austin.
“Fine with me, i’ll have him knocked out unconscious!” Jimmy explained.
Jimmy ripped the cart towards the giant, thick, oak tree. He laughed as he told Austin the plan. He couldn’t wait to show the boar whose course this belonged to.
“You better not kill me trying to pull this off!” declared Austin.
“Don’t you worry, I’ve got this all under control,” Jimmy assured.
“I just want you to know, that if we happen to make it out alive,” Austin said frightfully, “ I’ll pay for dinner.”
“We definitely aren’t going to die now!” Jimmy said cheerfully.
As the neared the oak tree, the noticed the boar had started to speed up.
“Perfect, I’ve got him right where I want him,” Jimmy laughed to himself.
Right before the cart crashed, Jimmy turned the cart sharply, leading the boar right into the oak tree. The boar went unconscious, just like Jimmy had said it would. Once Bruce had made it to where the incident had happened, he greeted us with a worried look on his face.
“Are you two alright?” Bruce screeched.
“Yeah, we’re fine, just had a little mix-up out there,” chuckled Jimmy.
But in the end, everything turned out better than it was when we started the day. Bruce decided that he’d let us golf for free and receive free snacks for as long as we lived. Which we had no trouble accepting that offer. Although we moved on from the situation, whenever we drove past that oak tree, we always laughed and joked about that one crazy day. The day when almost everything went wrong.
