The Break In

It was 10:00 PM on Saturday and my friend Chloe and I were watching a movie in my room. We heard something moving around downstairs, so we decided to go and see what it was. As we walked down the stairs Chloe was calling my parents. Because my parents didn’t pick up, we called the police. Chloe handed the phone to me to talk with the 911 operator while Chloe tried calling her parents, as we were running softly up the stairs and to my room.
The operator said, “911 what’s your emergency?” I said very scarefully, “Someone is in my house!”The operator said, “We will have the police there as soon as possible, what’s your address?”
“Please hurry,” I said frantically, “he’s getting closer to my room!” “Ma’am can you give me your address?” Questioned the operator.“Okay, we are at 20379 Elm Street, San Jose, California,” I said with fear as slow heavy footsteps were getting closer to my room.
“Okay, we will send the police officers as fast as we can. Stay where you are and be quiet so they don’t hear you! We’re going to put you on the phone with San Jose police department now,” said the operator.“Okay,” I replied. “Girls, what grade are you in?” The police officer asked, trying to get our minds off of the guy in my house.
“We’re in 8th grade, ” I said starting to cry. “Come quick please!” Chloe screamed into the phone, ignoring the question. “The footsteps are getting really close to my room!” I said screaming into the phone. Chloe and I were bawling now.
“We are coming as fast as we can ma’am just stay quiet and turn all the lights off,” the police officer said trying to keep us calm.“Chloe, go shuts that lamp and the TV off!” I said with tears running down my cheeks. “The cops should be outside now, so you should be okay.” the police officer said in a soft voice.
“Okay,” I said as we heard the front door creak open, “please tell them to hurry to my room!” “We will, we will go as fast we can so no one gets hurt.” The police officer said.“Okay, thanks!” I said as the footsteps started running toward the end of the hall where my room is.
“Your welcome!” The police officer said. “Hurry!” I said as we heard the door knob getting turned.“We are going as fast we can to help you the police officer should be in the house already so stay quiet,” the police officer said.
“Okay. Chloe! Follow me!” I whispered as I made my way to my closet. “Okay,” Chloe said. “Hide behind some clothes, like I am!” I said while we heard the door to my bedroom slowly open. “Chloe, grab something to protect yourself with incase ,” I whispered.
“Hello, anyone here?” The officer said.We slowly opened the door to my closet as I said, “Hello? Is this the police officer that we talked to?” “Yes, you can come out now you’re safe now with me,” said the police officer.
“But, but, where did he go?” I said stuttering. “Right,” Chloe agreed.“I don’t know where he went, we’re going to look for him, the police officer said trying to comfort us.“He, he, he was just in here though,” I said as my lip started to quiver.
“He was in your room?” The police officer questioned with a raised eyebrow.“It sounded like he was,” I said very confused. “Oh well stay there while we search your room to see if he is in here,” The police officer said.
“Okay,” Chloe and I said simultaneously as they closed the door to check my room. “So far we don’t see nothing but we see mud trails maybe we can trace them to see where he went,” The police officer said. “Okay, but what if they’re still in the house? There’s a staircase just down the hall. He could’ve gone down that when he heard you guys coming,” I said scared.
“Okay, we’re gonna go look and see if he did, so we are gonna go follow the mud trails until they stop. Is your phone charged all the way? Is there anyplace not too far from here that you could stay at?” The police officer questioned. “My mom and dad are out of town, Chloe’s parents are out of town, we could go to my aunts house. She lives a block or two away from here,” I said still scared.“Okay, can you call her to make sure you can stay?” questioned the cop.
As we were walking out of the house, the cops came by with a man that was whipping his arms around and screaming. I remember his voice being deep and raspy, he was wearing all black, and he was tall and slender.“LET GO OF ME,” screamed the man as the cops were carrying him across the yard. The cops got him to calm down and into a standing position. “Girls, come over here please,” said the cop that was standing by the car, “do you know who this is?” Chloe and I stared at each other for a second then said simultaneously, “Isn’t that, nevermind, its not.” “We have to take him down to the police station, would you like to come?” quizzed the cop. Chloe and I talked and then replied, “Sure, we’ll come.” We got into the cop car and headed towards the police station when Chloe asked in a shy and quiet voice, “What are you going to do with him?” “We are just going to question him and find out who he is, and why he broke into your house,” said the cop while keeping his eyes on the road. “Would you mind if we listened in, when you’re asking questions?” I pleaded. “I’m sure the investigators wouldn’t mind,” replied the cop with a smile on his face. We arrived at the police station as the other cops were walking the guy into the police station. “Are you sure that you want to listen in on the questioning?” asked Chloe whispering. “I want to if you want to,” I replied. “Girls, we are going to start the questioning now,” said the cop motioning us to two seats in front of a glass window, where the guy was sitting. “Okay,” we said nervous. We watched 2 investigators walk into the room. Then investigators started questioning him right away. “Who are you?” questioned the investigator.“Charlie,” he replied. I looked at Chloe and started crying then said, “Charlie's my uncle.” “Why would he want to break into your house?” Chloe asked me. One of the cops that was sitting outside of the room with us got up and went into the questioning room. “What’s he doing?” Chloe whispered to me. The cop came out of the room and asked me to go into the room. Chloe got up with me, but the cop motioned her down.“Can’t she come with?” I asked with desperation. “It would be better if she didn’t,” replied the cop in a calm voice. I looked at Chloe to sit back down. When I got in the room, Charlie stood up. I tried to walk out of the room, but the cop stopped me. “I’m so sorry Amy,” he said to me with a tears in his eyes. “Why would you do that to me and my family?” I asked him while crying. “I was jealous of my brother, and how nice of a life he has,” he replied in a soft voice, “so, I decided to try and ruin it by breaking into his house and taking a lot of his stuff.” My mom and dad walked into the police station and 2 cops showed them where I was. “Are you okay?” My mom asked me crying. “We’re both okay, mom!” I replied. “I’m taking them home now,” said my mom in a bossy voice. “I’m afraid you can’t do that ma’am,” said the cop. “I’m taking them home right now,” ordered my mom. “I will talk to the investigators and see what they say,” said the cop walking away, “they said you could take her home now.” Charlie was sent to Jail for breaking and entering, and Chloe and I never wanted to be home alone again.
